The Newest DA42 In The Country Goes To Air Hawkes Bay

On the 11th of April, we happily handed over the keys to a beautiful 2009 Diamond Aircraft DA42 Twin Star to Kevin England, the CEO of it’s proud new owner Air Hawkes Bay.

Our CEO, Don McCracken, and Hamilton Manager, Larry Jooste, presented the aircraft to the Kevin England who was joined by their CFI Michael Stonestreet and pilots Stefan Taber and Tyler Stoehr at a small handover ceremony held at our Hamilton branch (Aeromotive).

First acquired out of Australia at the end of 2016, the history of this particular aircraft is in aerial surveying, work that has kept her in great condition that only required a small amount of work before presented to her new owners.

After a conversation between Don and Kevin in late 2016, the aircraft was quickly earmarked for Air Hawkes Bay due to the number of benefits adding this aircraft to the Air Hawkes Bay fleets brings.

First of all there is the benefit of using a fuel efficient aircraft. This particular DA42 houses two 2.0 litre compression ignition turbo-diesel engines that produce 135 horsepower each, offering an efficient fuel burn of an extremely cost effective and widely available fuel source, Jet A1.

Second, this aircraft comes with avionics to comply with PBN (Performance Based Navigation) and ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast) requirements, giving Air Hawkes Bay a future focused aircraft.

Third, with Air Hawkes Bay currently operating a single-engined Cessna 172 with the Garmin 1000 installed, the addition of this Twin Star (also equipped with the Garmin 1000) provides continuity for their pilots.

Not to mention these aircraft are becoming one of the most popular twin engine trainer across the globe. The Diamond DA42 Twin Star aircraft were first certified in 2004 in Europe and then in 2005 in the USA. This is a four-seated twin-engine fixed wing aircraft with a composite airframe that truly looks to belong in the twenty first century, a place any modern training facility want to be.

We are always happy to see one of our aircraft go to a satisfied new owner.
